With over 70 vendors in attendance, the Flatwoods (Kentucky) Harvest Festival offered a wide array of choices for customers to purchase this year. Vendors were able to set up and sell their items, as well as gain visibility for their small businesses, while also supporting the community in a fall celebration held Oct. 21 in Flatwoods City Park.
Joni Beavers, owner of It’s 4 Reelz, turned her hobby into a business five years ago. Beavers sells name badge plates, pens, Jibbitz (decorations for Crocs footwear) and more. She will be set up at Minford High School’s Winterfest on Nov. 18 and the Christmas Craft Show in Waverly on Dec. 18.
Lizzie Snyder, the namesake and owner of Designs by Lizzie, got her start selling homemade crafts when her co-workers encouraged her to turn her efforts into a business. She will be set up at the 5th Annual Christmas Boutique & Craft Show Nov. 10 and 11 in Boyd County, Kentucky.
The Flatwoods Harvest Festival is one of many events sponsored by the Flatwoods Parks & Recreation Department. Carolyn McGranahan, who helps the board and is a Russell High School teacher, said that she encourages her students to take advantage of the volunteer hours the events offer.
McGranahan shares that she hopes to keep the events free and family friendly for years to come.
The City of Flatwoods regularly holds other events as well, such as movies in the park once a month. They also are planning a Christmas Parade around Thanksgiving. For more information about upcoming Flatwoods events, visit their Facebook page or the Flatwoods Parks & Recreation Board page.
