It is homecoming week, and the Bears are gearing up for the big dance this Saturday. The only dilemma is, what is a homecoming dance without a queen and a king?
This week has been a great week for the students on campus, but the one thing on everyone’s mind is who will be donning the crowns on Saturday evening. So, with that in mind, I spoke to Marlita Cadogan, the director of student life at SSU, to get some more information about what we can expect from our 2024 homecoming court.
Cadogan said that she is excited for this year’s homecoming court. This year’s candidates for homecoming king are Zach Elliott, Trevor Masanjala, Charles Nance, Ben Wade III, Brendan Leibengood, Kyle Perry and Ian Shaeffer. But what is a king without a queen?
This year’s queen candidates are Maybree Rinard, Olivia Holsinger, Faith Kuhn, Corrine Woods, Hannah Rearick, Madisyn Connelley and Olyvia Bittner.
The voting for these candidates closes on Sept. 27 with the coronation taking place on Sept. 28 immediately following the SSU volleyball game. The future queen and king will be crowned by SSU student and former SSU homecoming queen Zoe Harville, alongside SSU’s First Lady Rebekah Braun. This is a homecoming tradition that will continue this year, and the Bears couldn’t be more excited.
On Sept. 28, be sure to check out the SSU Homecoming Parade featuring former and current SSU queen and king candidates. The parade is scheduled to start at 10:30 a.m. and end at the homecoming tailgate party. If you haven’t voted yet, check your student email for more information from Student Life.
