When having to constantly juggle between responsibilities such as classwork and a job, it can be difficult for college students to create time in their schedule to unwind. Everyone needs an outlet, and for some that outlet is none other than SSU’s Creative Writing Club. The club serves as a community for students who either simply enjoy creative writing or who actively partake in the various forms of it, including poetry, fan fiction, short/long stories and screenplays. Students from all majors, members or non-members, have the opportunity to attend meetings with writing workshops so they may receive constructive feedback on their original, written works from peers and enhance their overall writing ability.
Currently, there are about 24 members in the Creative Writing Club. This larger club size allows for a more active and engaging environment with access to multiple unique perspectives, which is a vital element for any workshop.
For the fall 2024 semester, the Creative Writing Club meets biweekly on Tuesday from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. in Massie 212. The date of their next meeting is Tuesday, Oct. 8. The club officers do everything they can to ensure scheduling is not an issue for their members. At the beginning of every semester, a Google Form is sent out asking members what weekday and time works best for them to limit the number of meetings they would otherwise be forced to miss.
Club officers hope to increase the club’s attendance rate and overall popularity/activity. Anyone interested in joining the Creative Writing Club can either visit the club’s SSU Presence page at shawnee.presence.io and send a message to the club’s president Zachary Elliott through the contact tab or send him an email directly at [email protected] with a message stating they would like to join. Whether a student is a beginner who’s interested in learning more about creative writing or someone with a burning passion for the subject, the Creative Writing Club’s doors are open to anyone and everyone.
