While being a new student on campus can be daunting, the all-female Bible club on SSU’s campus would be delighted to have any young women looking for friendship and community join their club. Delight Ministries is a women-only group that, according to their Instagram bio, “has a mission to invite college women into a Christ-centered community that fosters vulnerability and transforms stories.”
Laiken Combs, a Delight group leader, said that members strive to “create a community for women to be surrounded by like-minded individuals. It’s not just a place where we grow closer to God, but where we do it together. It’s truly a family, and I couldn’t live without it during the hard years of college.”
The Delight leaders work hard to create a welcoming environment, as they hold lots of events on campus. So far this academic year, they have held their annual kickoff event, where they began the start of their weekly meetings. They have also held a “mix and mingle” event, which is like speed-dating for friends. They currently are looking forward to their Thanksgiving and Christmas parties. Information for students interested in attending will be posted on their Instagram @delight_ssu. You may see Delight members around campus setting up booths outside Massie Hall, as they have a finals week cart, where they serve the whole campus during finals week. Their cart offers students snacks, pencils, encouragement and prayer for those who may need it.
Delight’s Bible studies are always upstairs in the Morris University Center in room 214 on Monday nights at 8 p.m. They start off each meeting by going over announcements, followed by an activity and worship. They then have one of the elected leaders lead a Bible chapter to study. There are four questions at the end of each chapter that are conversation starters, and this is where they break into small groups to go through the questions, or even just talk about their individual lives. Combs said that “this small group becomes like a little family. We even hang out outside of Delight sometimes.”
Combs invites any female student on campus to join their Delight family. It can dramatically improve the college experience, she said, adding that “through this ministry, I’ve gained some of the best friendships. I actually enjoy college because I don’t have to do it alone anymore. These girls are always here for me, in the good and the bad. This Godly community is something I wouldn’t trade for the world.” If you would like to join Delight Ministries, all you have to do is show up at one of their Monday meetings, and you will be welcomed into their family.
