Finals Week is rapidly approaching, and with that comes stress and hectic schedules. Luckily, many resources on campus are here to help combat that stress and lead you to a successful end of the semester. Clark Memorial Library hosted a “Night Against Procrastination” on Nov. 21, with plenty of finals help and other sources to help students de-stress. Stress toys, candy, pens and highlighters were given out at the front desk; students could meet with Success Center coaches, Writing Center tutors, and have research appointments with librarians to help them tackle their final projects and essays.
The VIP of the event, however, was Yeti the therapy dog. He happily accepted pets and treats from visiting students, trotting around the library and rolling over for belly rubs. Tutors and coaches sat with students to help formulate essays and wrap up projects, and librarians were always around to make sure everyone was doing OK and were happy to help with anything. Puzzles and games were provided at the stress-free zone, giving students a break from their work to socialize and unwind. Students were encouraged to “eat their frogs;” in other words, finish their most daunting task first.
The event proved to be a success. Students visited, got work done and were able to pet Yeti and play games afterwards. As someone who attended, I can say that I was able to push back on procrastination and get stuff done for my classes – and I had a wonderful time sitting with Yeti and putting puzzles together with my friends.
