As students at SSU have traveled across campus throughout the semester, many may have noticed flyers advertising a trip to Greece in May of 2026.
The trip is advertised as a chance to study abroad from May 12 to June 15 of 2026, and the final deadline to apply for the program is Feb. 5, 2026. While the price of travel may be higher than students might wish at $6,695 plus airfare, there are ways to get that price down.
“Students can use financial aid,” said SSU political science professor Thomas Bunting, who is organizing the study abroad trip.
Students who don’t know how to apply their financial aid to the program should “speak to Ryan Warner, our director of International Studies and Programs,” according to Bunting. “He can help with the financial aid, and there are also scholarships available.”
Information about the scholarships in question can be found at Greece – KIIS – Study Abroad. Students can apply on the site by clicking the scholarships & financial aid cost tab.
Any students who are accepted to study abroad on this trip will be required to have a passport, but a visa will not be required due to the short length of the trip.
Students majoring in psychology, classics, English and political science are encouraged to apply for the trip. This is because the courses offered as part of the program will fall into those majors. However, students in other majors can apply these course credits as electives if they desire to do so.
One concern that arises for interested students is safety. Being so far from home where anything could happen can be a deterring effect for students and parents or guardians of students. Bunting offered reassurance on the matter, stating that while “we don’t have set curfews, we have a lot of best practices. We encourage people to always have a friend or preferably two friends with them.”
“I’ve done the trip three times and we’ve not had any safety or legal issues with students,” Bunting added.
All students who wish to apply may do so until Feb. 5, 2026, but can receive a $100 discount if they apply by Dec. 1, 2025.
