PORTSMOUTH, Ohio – The Shawnee State University theater department is preparing for its fall production of “The Cottage,” a fast-paced comedy that will run Nov.6-8 at the Vern Riffe Center for the Arts.
Directed by the head of SSU’s musical theater program Summer Logan, the show offers students and community members a chance to enjoy a light-hearted story before the end of the semester.
“The department tries to do a major musical every semester, as well as a straight drama or a comedy,” said Shirley Crothers-Marley, a professor of theater and music. “This semester, the department is presenting a comedy entitled ‘The Cottage.’”
Crothers-Marley, who has been part of the program for several years, said the theater department aims to give students hands-on experience in all aspects of production. From acting and stage design to lighting and sound. Each semester’s show offers opportunities for students to showcase their creativity and develop their performance skills.
Tickets for “The Cottage” can be purchased at the Vern Riffe Center from the arts box office during regular business hours. Student tickets are available at a reduced price.
“The Cottage” marks the department’s final production of the semester, continuing a long-standing Shawnee State tradition of bringing engaging and accessible theater to campus.
