PORTSMOUTH, Ohio – The Shawnee State University women’s basketball team dominated Wilberforce University on Wednesday night, earning a 79-50 victory.

Senior Myoshi Ellis led the Lady Bears with 24 points, eight assists and five rebounds. Ellis credited the team’s focus on defense and preparation for the win.
“As a team we focused on working hard on defence and piecing everything together that we worked on in practice,” she said. “I focused on seeing the gaps in the defense that my coach told the team that they were going to be there.”
The Lady Bears showcased unselfish play and strong teamwork.
“We moved the ball around and played unselfishly,” Ellis said. “We took the right shots, and when we couldn’t get one, we helped our teammates get a better one. We communicated very well coming off the bench, and we supported each other a lot.”
Communication played a big role for this team, especially against Wilberforce’s bigger players.
“If we don’t talk on defense, we miss different rotations and don’t play as good,” Ellis explained. “They had a few big players, so without communication on where they were going through the paint, they could have really hurt us.”
Looking ahead, Ellis emphasized the teams forward-thinking mindset. She explained that straight after games the team looks forward to the next, scouting and working hard straight away. She added that the team focuses on improving defensive rotations and on-court communication for future games.
