Markell Hood is from Overland Park, Kansas. He is a junior this year at Shawnee and is on the men's basketball team. He is currently studying sports management but doesn’t exactly know what he wants to do in the future besides play pro basketball overseas.

He grew up with his parents Michael and Christie Hood. He is the youngest of six children, including older sisters Ashley, Marquise, Marissa and Jalyn, He also has one older brother, Mike. Markell went to Blue Valley Northwest High school in Overland Park, where he won three state championships in basketball.

The men’s basketball team has their first away game Oct. 29 and their first home game Nov. 6. He is looking forward to trying to bring another national championship banner to SSU. Markell's favorite thing about Shawnee is his yoga class on Mondays and Wednesdays. He says it’s the best part of his day because he gets time to relax and talk to God in a relaxing setting.
