Teegan Carpenter, Staff Writer
Teegan Carpenter is a sophomore at Shawnee State University majoring in communication. She is a graduate of Ironton High School and a lifelong resident of Ironton, Ohio, which lies about 30 miles east of SSU’s campus along the Ohio River. Teegan moved into the communication program this year after starting as an education major. She said she was inspired to switch majors after learning about the social media management career of a friend’s sister. “It seemed like a good fit,” she said.
Teegan said she is most interested in using her education to prepare for a career as a sports reporter or public relations manager. Her interest in sports is driven, in part, by her own high school experience as a multi-sport athlete. She played volleyball, basketball and tennis, and even played a year of tennis at SSU before hanging up her racquet.
Teegan has an older brother who is also a student-athlete, playing quarterback on the football team at the University of Pikeville in Kentucky. She is also very involved as a volunteer at C3 Church in South Point, Ohio, where her father is the pastor. She serves primarily in children’s classrooms and various outreach efforts. When she’s not in class or volunteering, she spends most of her time working and hanging out with friends.
