Thomas Bailey, also known as “Sarge,” is a sophomore at Shawnee State University majoring in sports management and minoring in human resources. He is originally from Portsmouth and graduated from Notre Dame High School in Portsmouth. He has 25 years of basketball coaching experience.

Thomas was a member of the Coast Guard, Marines and Army National Guard and retired from the military in April 2014. He served in Sacramento, California; Brooklyn, New York; Seattle, Washington; Homer, Alaska; and Hawaii.

He enjoys hobbies such as reading and playing chess. He participates in the Portsmouth Chamber of Commerce, AMVETS (American Veterans) and SSU's student veterans organization. He is also an assistant coach of the SSU women’s basketball team.

Thomas said his goal in writing is to “write with charity and to be accurate with the information I am writing about.” He enjoys writing about community events and sports. He plans to graduate in the spring of 2025 and hopes to become an athletic director in a high school or work with Boys & Girls Clubs of America.
