Donovan Carlise
Donovan Carlise is a senior student-athlete majoring in Communications. Donovan is originally from Indiana and spent his first 2 years of college at Denver University before transferring to UTPB for his junior year. Fortunately, Donovan has now found a new home here at Shawnee State University. Donovan does not usually like writing because he believes that he lacks content to write about. In fact, Donovan is only taking writing classes in order to receive his degree.

He has a deep love of basketball. He also has fierce understanding and desire for racial equality. As a black student-athlete, he understands the struggles when it comes to the racial discrimination. He ultimately wants to make a difference in life, not just in sports, but in general. Donovan wants to one day use his platform to ignite change. This is quite evident today when you see major sporting athletes such as Lebron James, use his huge social media following to highlight the racial issues in America. Donovan spoke on mental health and how he uses gaming to escape the stresses of regular life. Mental health is a major factor in sports and Donovan can relate to how important it is to take care of it. Unfortunately, In sports mental health is not spoken enough about because as athletes we are perceived as superheroes which is great at times. However, we are still human and bad days also occur for us.
