Jacob Naumovski

For Shawnee State junior Jacob Naumovski, history has always been a subject that came naturally to him. Originally from Cincinnati, Ohio, Naumovski is majoring in history and considering a master’s degree in library science after graduation. He hopes that that path will give him flexibility, either to find work directly after college, or to continue to further his education if it becomes a better option.

“It just made sense to study something that I enjoy and feel confident in, rather than push myself into a degree that I might not like,” he said.

Naumovski has been at Shawnee State University for his entire college career. When looking at schools, he said he was drawn to the university’s smaller campus and the convenience of having everything close by. The financial side also played a role for him.

“The locked-in tuition rate made the decision easier,” he said. “It gave me some stability and made it better for sorting out finances.”

Although history is his academic focus, Naumovski also has an interest in creative writing. He is a fan of fiction and enrolled in the news reporting and writing class as a way to branch out and explore other types of writing. It also offers an opportunity to challenge himself and explore skills outside of his major. For now, Naumovski is focused on making the most of his time at Shawnee. Between pursuing his passion for history and experimenting with new kinds of writing, he is using these years to explore what excites him and to help him prepare for whatever comes next.
