Saint Patrick’s Day events scheduled in Portsmouth

Every year, the 7 Nations Celtic Club of Southern Ohio works with Port City Pub to put on an amazing Saint Patrick’s Day celebration. Considering Portsmouth is nestled in the Appalachian region (known for its Scots-Irish heritage), the celebration is always a big hit. Port City just announced its calendar for the celebration, which runs March 11-18.

Saturday, March 11: Live music by Jeff Valentine and John Biggs at 7 p.m.

Tuesday, March 14: Painting at the Pub with Charlie Haskins at 6 p.m. The painting will be of the Emerald City from The Wizard of Oz.

Wednesday, March 15: 7 Nations Celtic Club Drink Toast Contest at 7 p.m. Come ready to give your best drink toast for a chance to be crowned the Drink Toast Champion of 2023.

Thursday, March 16: Business After Hours at 5 p.m. This is an event for Chamber members and their guests.

Friday, March 17: Saint Patrick’s Day with live music starting at 4 p.m. The bands will include Jason Burton, Rose Mountain Ramblers, and Ian Jones and the Tipperary Three.

Saturday, March 18: An Irish breakfast will be served from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. Then, the Saint Patrick’s Day Parade will begin at 11 a.m. Following the parade, Port City will have live entertainment all day. The entertainment will include Shamrock Club Pipes and Drums, Cirque d’Art Celtic Dancers, Amhrain, Mad Maudlin, and Rose Mountain Ramblers.

Shawnee students—and community members—are welcome to join the festivities. Whether you have Irish heritage or are just interested in the events, you are welcome to take advantage of it. This celebration is wholly unique to Portsmouth; you won’t find anything else like it.
