Elizabeth Gillespie, Staff Reporter

Elizabeth Gillespie is beginning her second year at Shawnee State University where she will graduate in the spring of 2024 with a bachelor’s in English Humanities with a concentration in Integrated Language Arts (Grades 7-12). She is also pursuing a minor in philosophy. She has always recognized the value of the written word, which inspired her to teach communication skills to others. She is not yet sure where her passion for writing will take her later in life, but she is excited to explore writing in the context of journalism.

Gillespie will be writing about politics and community news. She wants to provide the campus community with stories that are both relevant and compelling. She believes that it is critical for students to be informed about important issues such as campus policies, procedures, and even campus events.  For this reason, she hopes to be a valuable asset to the Chronicle team and to campus as a whole.

Aside from writing, she enjoys reading older works of literature, antique shopping, and spending time with friends. Her interest in the American political field has become more evident in recent years, as she has written a thorough research paper about the influence of political philosophy on the American education system. She is eager to report on the subject of politics with an open mind and an inclination toward truth.

Gillespie will take advantage of the opportunity to publish her work and gain insight on a new perspective of writing. She will use her experiences with the Chronicle to sharpen her skills in precision language, usage, grammar and mechanics. Gillespie will also incorporate the reporter perspective into the curriculum of her future classroom by asking students to investigate the credibility of statements, sources, and news reports. She believes that the experience and knowledge of publishing her writing will be invaluable to her personally and to her career.
