The Happy Pot

The Happy Pot is a local business where customers enjoy painting pottery and connecting with other members of their community. Owner Cinamon Wellington opened the Happy Pot in 2015, and it has been at its current location at 522 2nd St. in Portsmouth since 2017.

Wellington believes in fostering a healthy and happy community through the shop, which is open 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursdays, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and 1-5 p.m. Sundays. Reservations are not required.

Our goal when we first opened The Happy Pot was to create an environment that would make people stay (close to) home — to be happy, to be safe,” she said. “And I believe that we reached that goal in our positive contributions in the growth of our community.”

That safe environment has extended through Wellington’s community outreach efforts.

“We work with adults and children with special needs, schools, recovery programs and at-risk juvenile programs,” Wellington said. We won the Main Street small business of the year award for our dedication to community development. We were instrumental in the success of Plant Portsmouth where Portsmouth set a Guinness world record for the most people planting a plant at one time. Last year we made 700 hygiene bags for people in need and distributed (them) throughout Scioto County.”

Upcoming events for the Happy Pot include wine and canvas gatherings on Oct. 7 and Nov. 18 (tickets are to be pre-purchased by those 21 and older) and a Gilmore Girls day on Oct. 21 with a coffee bar. On Oct. 28, customers  who wear costumes will get a 20% discount. Large serving bowls will be $30 on Nov. 4, and  crystal glazed pie plates will be $30 on Nov. 11.

Camryn Pierson, Staff Writer
Camryn Pierson is a sophomore at Shawnee State University. She is majoring in AYA language arts education. She chose this major because she was inspired by her teachers throughout her junior high and high school career to love reading. The Secret History by Donna Tartt is one of Camryn’s favorite works of literature because of its critique of elitism and groupthink. She wishes to pass that love of reading on to her future students. As a part of Project BEAR, Camryn works with elementary students to provide literacy support. She will be going to Minford Elementary School to continue her passion of encouraging young minds to fall into the world of books. When asked about an important figure in her life, Camryn named her mom because of the love and support she provides. Camryn offers the following advice to other students: Make sure to stay on top of homework, get involved in college life and make sure to study.
