Haunted Attractions Near Campus

Halloween is the time students flock to the movie theater and haunted houses to be scared out of their mind. There are numerous places near town for students to go to receive the thrill of jumps scares and being chased. Many of these different haunted attractions are low in cost, making it affordable for students.

 

Terror in the Trees

Terror in the Trees is a popular haunted trail located at 444 Jacobs Cemetery Road

in Lucasville, Ohio (about a 30-minute drive from campus). They are open every Friday and Saturday night in October. Their hours of operation are 8:00 PM to 12:00 AM. Admission is $10 per person. Backwoodz Oddities

Backwoodz Oddities is a haunted house located at 832 Valley Road in Waverly, Ohio (about 45 minutes from campus). This year, their theme is “The Last Carnival.” They are open every Friday and Saturday night in October. Their hours of operation are 8:00 PM to 12:00 AM, with tickets being $10 each. They also offer “Hell Night” on October 12thfrom midnight until 2 AM. This is an adult haunted house where the actors try their hardest to scare customers. All customers attending “Hell Night” must be 18 years of age and will be expected to sign a waiver. Tickets for this must be purchased in advance and cost $20. Bogies Haunted House

Bogies Haunted House is located in 1000 Oaks Drive in Ashland, Kentucky (about 45 minutes from campus). They are open every Friday and Saturday night in October from 8:00 PM to 12:00 AM. Tickets are $10 each. Bogies Haunted House also offers a discount to see both attractions for $15.

 

Doctor Dekay’s House of Screams

This Halloween attraction is located at 310 South 3rd Street in Ironton, Ohio (about 30 minutes from campus). They are open every Friday and Saturday night in October from 7:00 PM until 12:00 AM. Admission is $10 per ticket. They offer a survival room and a challenge to complete puzzles, locking a door before zombies make it inside. These attractions cost $5 each. Portsmouth Area Jaycees Haunted House

This is a charity-based haunted house located in downtown Portsmouth. They are open every Friday and Saturday in October, including the 31stof October and November 1stand 2nd. Tickets are on sale every night at 7:00 PM, with the attraction beginning at 8:00 PM. Ticket costs are $7 for adults and $6 for children 12 and under. RC Haunted Asylum

This is located at 14804 US 23 in Greenup, Kentucky (about 20 minutes from campus). They are open every Friday and Saturday in October, including the 31stof October and November 1stand 2nd. They operate from 7:00 PM to 11:00 PM (or whenever the last customer leaves the attraction). Tickets for this haunted house cost $8. Fallsburg Fearplex

This attraction is located at 5650 Highway 3 North in Louisa, Kentucky (about 75 minutes from campus). Fallsburg offers four different attractions based on real events that happened in Louisa. They are open every Friday and Saturday night in October. Tickets cost $22 and include access to all four attractions. They also offer a $40 speed pass to eliminate waiting time, as they estimate each attraction will take a total of 45 minutes. Tickets are sold 30 minutes before the dark of night approaches and continue until midnight. There are two nationally ranked haunted attractions within reasonable distance of campus. The Dent Schoolhouse (https://frightsite.com/) is located in Cincinnati, Ohio. Popular Mechanics Magazine ranked the attraction #12 in the nation. Another nationally ranked haunted attraction is The Waverly Hills Sanatorium. It is located in Louisville, Kentucky.
