PORTSMOUTH, Ohio – The Shawnee State women’s basketball team remained unbeaten at home after securing two victories over the weekend, beating Madonna (Mich.) 68-57 on Nov. 14 and following with an 82-52 win over the Bruins of Carolina University on Nov. 15.
The Bears set the tone early in both games, using defensive pressure and steady ball movement to control the pace. Saturday’s matchup against the Bruins was one of the team’s most balanced outings of the season, as 12 different played scored and the Bears built a comfortable lead by halftime. The depth allowed the Bears to rotate freely and maintain energy throughout the game.

Junior forward Kyla Torok led the way across the weekend, posting a 20-point, 10-rebound double-double in the win over the Bruins. Torok said her teammates played a major part in her strong performance and added that the team’s routine on their home court gives them an extra level of confidence.
“My teammates got me the ball in spots I like to shoot from, and we all feel really confident playing here because we shoot on this court everyday,” Torok said. “It just feels natural when we step out for a home game.”
Torok’s consistency at home mirrors the team’s season-long approach. The Bears spend hours in their gym daily, from practice to extra shots before games. These efforts have made their home floor one of their biggest advantages. Protecting it has become a point of pride and something players say fuels their energy each time they take the court. With the weekend sweep, Shawnee State looks to continue its strong start and extend its perfect home record as the season progresses.
