Chase Ward, Staff Reporter

Chase Ward is a fifth-year senior at Shawnee State University, majoring in sports management. His interests in covering athletics are in direct correlation to his desires to become a sports information director for a university in the future, and he hopes that the skills that he develops during his time at The Chronicle will be beneficial in reaching that goal. The knowledge and skills that can be gained from the course should prove to be invaluable assets to his future career aspirations.

Writing for The Chronicle is important to Ward because he sees it as an opportunity to improve his skills as a writer to put himself in a better position for the future. A strong writing ability is key to his future goals. This is much more than a class to him: it is an opportunity to develop skills to better himself, which he does not take lightly.

In his experience as an intern for the Shawnee State University athletic department, he had opportunity to cover athletics within the university, and get a taste of athletic news reporting. His experience in writing comes primarily covering athletics, with some of his articles having been published to the Shawnee State athletic website. However, he views writing for The Chronicle to prove to others and himself that he is more than just a sportswriter. He wants to become more well-rounded to improve the sample works that go along with his resume. Overall, Ward is looking forward to the opportunities that are before him, and he hopes to make the most of them.
